Standout residents honored by City Council

GOUTHA pair of outstanding Taylor residents, George Gouth and Gerald Ziemba, were honored with proclamations by the City of Taylor during the past two City Council meetings.

Gouth (above), Taylor's noted historian, was honored by council during its December 5, 2017, meeting. In a proclamation presented by City Councilwoman Caroline Patts and Mayor Rick Sollars, it would pointed out that Gouth moved to Taylor in 1958. In 1974, he was appointed to the newly established Historical Commission and was instrumental in the design of Heritage Park. In 1990, the Historical Society was created, and he has been involved with it since then. Two of Gouth's major projects involved a block grant for move of the West Mound Church to the park, as well as the relation of the Knope Farmhouse there.

Ziemba (below) was honored during the November 21, 2017, meeting. A resident of the City for 42 years, he has been a member of the Rotary Club of Taylor since 1984, serving in the functiosn of president and treasurer at different times. For the past 30 years, the City of Taylor has also been a client of Comerica Bank, where Ziemba provided outstanding service to the community before recently retiring.
